You've just read the story "A Scandal in Bohemia" by Arthur Conan Doyle. It's been used by BBC screenwriters as an inspiration for the series "A Scandal in Belgravia" from Season 2 of "Sherlock" by BBC. Watch the final scene of the series and compare the character of Irene Adler and her relationship with Serlock Holmes in the book and in the film. Can you notice any differences? 1. After watching this video, I can say with confidence that these are almost two completely different stories, in which only the names of the characters are similar.
Comparing and analyzing the images of Irene Adler in the book and in the film, I came to the conclusion that they are vastly different from each other.
In the book, Irene appeared to us as a reasonable, cunning and wise woman, with whom even in some ways you can take an example. Although her description at the beginning of the story made it clear that she is nothing other than an adventurer. But in the end, it became clear to us that the wisdom of this amazing woman would be worth learning for everyone. What can I say if Sherlock Holmes himself admired her? After all, thanks to her ingenuity, she managed to win this "game".
In the film, she appeared to us as a cunning and devious lady, which now we can definitely call an adventurer. But based on the miniature fragments, where we can observe a fairly close relationship between Irene and Sherlock, at the beginning of the film, Irene was presented with a good side. Another fairly significant difference is the fact that in the film, Irene also thought that she managed to win, but apparently here she was not so smart, and all her plans collapsed in an instant. Throughout the entire time, she led her "game", but, to her great chagrin, she still failed to beat Sherlock.
I really liked to follow the development of the plot in the story, but I was no less strongly hooked by the video. Now I know exactly what I'm going to do next in quarantine. First I will read the entire book (which I was given as a child), and then I will watch a movie about Sherlock Holmes.
Thank you for the idea, Natalia Vladimirovna!)

    1. Great analysis, Angelina! I'm happy this task inspired you to read the book and to watch the film. The Sherlock series by BBC is my favourite.

  2. After analyzing the character of Irene Adler in the book and in the film, we can say that we saw two completely different women.
In the book, the character of Irene is described as follows:
"But she has a steel soul. She has the face of the most beautiful woman and the mind of the most determined men."
"Oh, she has turned all the men’s heads down in that part. She is the daintiest thing under a bonnet on this planet."
She managed to unravel the plan of Holmes, this speaks of her wisdom and independence. The genius detective very rarely had to lose even to the smartest and most dangerous male opponents, and he could not expect such a thing from "this woman."
In the film Irene, we see an insidious woman and a real adventurer.
She is an imperious and manipulating woman. Very clever that she even hooked Sherlock himself, knocking him astray during the investigation. Holmes was not literally in love with Irene Adler - such feelings were "foreign to his cold mind." But, of course, she causes him sincere interest. Sherlock Holmes in the film extols his insight, and he managed to reveal the cunning plan of Irene.

  3. If you compare the film with the story, then there are definitely changes. I compared the images of Irene Adler, and I realized that they are very different.
In the book, Irene Adler is very wise, a woman who thinks through her every step, judicious. But in the film, she looks very cunning, completely independent, adventurous woman. The movie Irene was not so smart, more than all her plans collapsed. She didn't manage to outwit Sherlock. After all, Sherlock in the book admired her intelligence and beauty.
