1. Grammar. Verb Patterns with a change of meaning.
Ми вже опрацювали, які дієслова вимагають після себе герундія, а які - інфінітива. Тестування показало, що більшість засвоїли матеріал на достатньому рівні. Раджу конспектувати теорію, щоб користуватися записами під час виконання тесту.
Але існують такі дієслова, що змінюють значення відповідно до того, що після них стоїть - інфінітив чи герундій. Їх ми сьогодні і розглянемо.
We have just learnt the basic verb patterns and we know which verbs are followed by infinitive and which require the use of gerund (see Grammar Reference in case you've forgotten). But there are some that can be followed by either form with a change of meaning. These are stop, regret, remember, forget, go on, try.
а) Read the examples and their translation. Зверніть увагу як змінюється значення дієслова залежно від того, що після нього йде, інфінітив чи герундій.
I've stopped buying coffee. - Я припинила купувати каву.
I've stopped to buy coffee. - Я зупинилась, щоб купити каву.
I regret telling you about that singing competition, now everybody knows I've entered. Я шкодую, що розказала тобі про змагання зі співів, тепер усі знають, що я буду брати в ньому участь.
We regret to tell you that your application has been unsuccessful. - З жалем повідомляємо, що ваша заявка не пройшла відбір.
She went on talking for hours. - Вона говорила годинами.
She started talking about gerunds and infinitives and she went on to tell a joke. - Вона почала говорити про герундій та інфінітив і потім розповіла жарт.

b) Speaking about feelings and emotions we use a lot of adjectives. Some of them get confused such as depressed and depressing. BBC Learning English offers a great lesson on -ing and -ed adjectives in their 6 Minute Vocabulary series (basic).
Listen to the audio and note down all the adjectives that you hear. Remember there's a transcript ("Show transcript"). Випишіть усі прикметники, які ви почули у аудіозаписі.
с) Мatch the adjectives with the following Ukrainian equivalents:

You can use "Vocabulary points to take away" under the audio.
